Jet Boat vs. Conventional Power

I'm looking at upgrading to a newer, bigger boat. I currently have a 1989 17ft stingray inboard/outboard. In my search I've seen a few 18-20ft jet boats. What is the maintenance like on them? Are they better in anyway? My current boat has been nothing but problems so far this season and I'd rather not jump head first into another maintenance nightmare.
I mainly spend my time on Lake Huron and a few smaller inland lakes if that changes anything.
