About 6-7 months ago, a friend of mine got Ticket to Ride (USA). Soon after, we began playing it with 4 people on a weekly basis. Not long after that, the expansion was added and then Ticket to Ride Europe as well. We have tried adding other games, but none have made an impact and in fact, with all the games we have tried, someone has vetoed us ever playing them again. The group has also expanded and Ticket to Ride is max 5 players.
Here are a few that have been vetoed:
- Risk (and anything Risk like)
- Monopoly
- Settlers
- Small World
- Forbidden Island
- Pandemic
- ALL co-op game
We play Flux if we want to play a quick 10-15 minute game, but no one is really in love it. We have The Game of Life which is the favorite of one player, but, no one else really enjoys it. Phase 10 was played, but a few people didn't like it.
We are looking for a game that is similar to Ticket to Ride. A game that does not require a lot of skill, but where strategy can be important. This group is a meld of the hardcore, the casual, the apathetic, and the sore loser. I know this is a lot of requirements, but if anyone can recommend a game for this group, it would be /r/boardgames.
Edit: Thank you all for your suggestions so far, but I have not seen a game the group would like. The picky member of the group does not like co-op games, anything with money (coins and the like), anything with a fantasy theme, anything where players interact with each other directly (wood for sheep), or anything that is too complicated. This is really what we're working around at this point.
