DnD for more ''vanilla'' people

Post Body

What I am looking for is a watered down and more accessible DnD game that has the ''characters going on adventures'' thing going for it, but still something a board game non-nerd could get into. Two things come to mind: Gloomhaven, but its more of a tactical co op with no real roleplay and Fiasco but its less of a game and more of a screenwriting simulator (which I still love). Betrayal Legacy could be what I am aiming for, but playing as a family bloodline aspect drags down the simplicity factor unnecessarily.
What do you got for me?

TL;DR I am looking for a design inspiration. I need a game that is so streamlined and convenient even people with a weak muscle for fantasy could get in to.
