Like the title said, Geekway is over and we had an absolute blast. This is our 4th year running and it just keeps getting better and better every year. If you have the chance, make this one on your list to attend. They have amazing give-aways, great events, and just an overall good atmosphere for gaming! ....anyway to the games played. Feel free to ask any questions!
- Fireball Island: I mean what's to say.... It's a solid reboot of a childhood classic. The game looks amazing on the table and is very simple fun.
- Root: I can see why this game is so well liked. All the factions play so differently.. it's amazing how they all come together in sync to play the same game.
- Alien Artifacts: 4x Tableau builder from a couple years ago that is hard to wrap your head around. We honestly couldn't find the enjoyment in the game... It was far to complex for very little fun.
- Crokinole: Gah, this game is a blast, the pinnacle beer and pretzels game. Players flick discs either in the hole, or to knock their opponents off the board. If you are a fan of dexterity games, find a crokinole board... you'll love it!
- Battle for Rokugen: This one was a surprise hit for us. It was a tight, brutal, thinky, area-control game set in the Legend of the 5 rings universe. If your a fan of murdering all of your friends... this is the game for you!
- Welcome To...: This is prolly no surprise to a lot, but this is a solid game. Trying to figure out the numbers and where they best fit really is lightning in a bottle. not to mention when a 1/pool line up... that's quite a felling :D
- Paper Tales: This one was a pleasant surprise. A light drafting game where you have to gather resources, build select buildings, and prepare your defenses for the on coming battles. Think 7 wonders but incredibly simplified. The art was delightful too.
- Tower of Madness: Kerplunk for adults. TBH this game was a hot mess. There is no way to plan your turns accordingly. You might go multiple turns without making any progress towards scoring points. ...It was fun to pull tentacles out of the tower tho..
- Raccoon Tycoon: This game was our game of the weekend. An easy to approach Economics game, Raccoon Tycoon has it all... auctions, buildings, resources, animal themed railroads, and the largest 1st player maker ever. It really is worth a look... HIGHLY recommend.
- Dice Throne: Yatzee themed combat game... think street fighter but with dice. Very very fun if your into tossing dice and beating up your friends!
- Treasure Island: Your long john silver and you buried your treasure on an island... your crew locked you up and is trying to steal that treasure before you can escape... I really wanted to try this game and was happy with the results... though it needs good markers. We had bad markers and it really suffered.
- Tiny Towns: You ever get so much stuff in a room in your house and it gets to the point where you want more stuff, but no room so you start throwing stuff away? ... That's basically tiny towns. You have to build everything you can in a tiny space, but it gets to the point where you don't have room. So you end up throwing a lot of resources away and scoring less points. Great game... very thinky... HIGHLY recommend...it's hot for a reason right now!
- Cryptid: Have you ever been Bamboozled so hard you really had to sit down and think about things for a while... That's cryptid. Collectively your hunting a monster, you all have a different clue, but all your clues combined point to one space on the board where the monster is hiding. Like I said... right when you think you have it figured out.... you don't. My only complaint about this one is they don't give you enough wooden bits...
- Betrayal at House on the Hill: Everyone knows about this guy... we actually had a good haunt. I turned everyone to warewolves :D
- Skull King: Pirate themed Trick taking game that scores in a few different ways. Very fun filler if you were a fan of spades with your grandma growing up!
- Trade on the Tigris: A very, very solid Tableau building/Trading game. The government and religion tracks make this game very interesting... in layman's terms you can play the game being good... or Evil. It was a lot of fun, TMG killed it with amazing production as always.
- Villages of Valeria: We were big fans of Valeria: Card Kingdoms (if you like the idea of Machi Koro but want a better version... Card Kingdoms is the game Machi Koro wants to be) so trying villages was a very easy transition. If you liked card kingdoms, you'll prolly enjoy Villages.
- Deadwood 1876: The latest game from Facade games puts you in wild west shootouts... last one standing walks away with the gold. We loved Tortuga and were hoping that deadwood scratched the same itch... sadly it did not. Our second game was far better than the first... but it just wasn't quite the same.
That was our list. 18 games learned and played in 3.5 days. We kept good time and pumped out nearly all the games we wanted to play... thank you to the few random strangers who stopped to help us with a rule or two... and to the people who bought those stupid game bags... watch where your going! I'm having nightmares of getting run into by those dumb things.
