WSIG: Board Game Noob looking to transition to medium games

I started playing and purchasing board games recently. As of right now, I have quite a few party games, which I consider to be light. Since I'm still not ready for heavy games (2 hours ), I'm trying to transition into medium games (less than 2 hours). The only medium type games I have are Dead of Winter, LNOE, and Forbidden Desert.

I really like the themes of trying to escape or kill things to survive. I am absolutely terrible with games like Ticket to Ride. What are your suggestions?
