I realize that some of you thoroughly enjoy teaching the rules of a game to other people. For some of you, it might be like chewing on a handful of screws. Or, perhaps you don't like lengthy rules explanations and want a quick, no strategy, no nonsense approach to teaching the rules of a game. And the reality is someone's going to lose interest if a rules explanation goes on for too long.
I'd like to make videos that explain the rules of a game that lasts no longer than 3 minutes and 21 seconds called "Rules in 3, 2, 1: insert game title here" Some rules explanations obviously take shorter than that, and those videos may include some gameplay. Some rules obviously could take longer than that... and that's where my challenge is. I don't know if I could explain the rules of Caverna in under 3:21... but I'd like to find out. Obviously there'd be significant editing, but perhaps this is something the community might be interested in. It would give those who hate explaining rules something to go off of, or, if worse comes to all worst... you could just show the video before you play the game. I'd make sure the videos cover the random questions and things like that, maybe including a little FAQ before the video ends. If you like the idea, maybe a suggestion for a first try. My potential first try can be from the following list (Because I own these games)
- Dominion
- Hanabi
- Twilight Struggle
- Sheriff of Nottingham
- Paperback
- Ticket To Ride
- Agricola (this one's the real challenge!)
- Ascension
- Catan (original, C&K, and Seafarers)
- 7 Wonders
- Carcassonne
- Coup
- Splendor
- The Resistance
- Munchkin
- King of New York
- Ingenious
Maybe nobody wants this, and that's fine too. If you could let me know your interest level, what game you'd like to see, and any suggestions, feel free to comment.
Thanks in advance!
Edit 1: /u/hadleyja and I are collaborating on the project. He's doing the video animation, and I'm doing scripts and audio, so as a team we should be able to put these out in high quality... Though in my opinion he's going to be doing a lot more of the work, which I'm unbelievably grateful for. Those of you who gave suggestions; they have been heard and are being discussed! Those of you with pm's asking to help, we will be discussing how you can be involved; most likely as testers, or possibly more, for the final release. Thank you, everyone, for all your support! Stay tuned for more updates as we progress.
