Unique ways to play with the basic Settlers of Catan Boardgame?

So my friends and I have pretty much exhausted ourselves with Settlers of Catan, and have even tried a bunch of variations of tiles and resource numbers to make games different and exciting.
I'm wondering if anyone's found new and unique ways to play, preferably without requiring too much additional equipment or pieces.
