We as the boardgaming community are often tasked to share the joy of our games with our friends and family and game groups. Sometimes we win and they love it. Sometimes we lose and that game gets blacklisted.
My question is what games were you surprised by how well they were accepted?
For me it was Sentinels of the Multiverse. After playing it a few times by myself. I pretty much zero'd in on the game. I LOVED it. But I also saw it's flaws. It's cumbersome both physically and mentally. So I brought it out to my board game club expecting them to like it ok but still prefer maybe DC Deckbuilder.
I was completely wrong. Sentinels was a smash hit. Not everyone at the club loves bit but far far more than I would have expected. Even one of the more experienced guys ended up buying his own copy and all the expansions. I still bring it with me and it gets played about 40-50% of the time and when it does it's always full. Often too full so I'll sit back and let five of them play while I take over for the villain and environment.
The games are long in the region of 2hours but for the most part people stick with it far more than i anticipated. So far my only real mistakes have been trying to pick hard villains to end the games faster. Miss Information was beastly but we got rugged lost 4 of our heroes and pressed on for that Victory.
