I understand the basics, but I'm still unclear about how combat works in the Skyrim Adventure Board Game?

Hello everyone, I have a couple of questions about how combat works in the Skyrim board game. I have gotten down the basics of it, like sneaking and whatnot. There's just a couple things I'm not 100% still. I have watched YouTube videos of people playing but I am still a little unclear on it and I'm hoping to find a helpful person here who can explain it.

First:

If I am fighting a creature and it has say health cubes that are both pink and yellow. Let's say that they have 3 yellow health and 4 pink health. If I am using a weapon that deals red damage, and say it does 3 red damage, will that take the yellow health to 0 and I win the battle? Or do both health colors need to be eliminated? Also, if I have a weapon with an attack that can do either yellow or red damage, can I pick the color of damage that I want it to do?

Second:

If I am playing with someone and we are both fighting a creature(s), when the creature attacks, how do we know which player takes damage? Do I take the damage or does my friend take the damage? Do we both take it?

Also: What are the black and white cubes used for?? No one I've seen on YouTube uses those mini cubes and I cannot find any information out about them. The rulebook is also useless when it comes to that (and many) parts of the game.
