We play with Builders and Traders, and Lakes and Cathedrals. We've bought most of the other expansions, but we didn't like them. So we don't use them, but we kept the extra tiles in the bag. We almost always play 2-players.
We played the game a lot for a while. But we got frustrated that the game became all about the farms. One person mught be way ahead, but whoever wins the farms wins the game. So we adopted a house rule, maxing out the pig-pens at 3 per farm. After that, they just don't count. With the meeple pig, that's max value 7-points per city on a farm.
We took a break from the game for a while. When we picked it back up, we didn't use the house rule. We just now finished a game that was a dead heat before farms. The bigger farm was 17 cities, worth 15 points each. We ran our of scoring tiles.
Anyone have thoughts? Maybe our farms are so out of control because we have all those extra tiles that came with expansions we don't use. We rarely have any holes in the map.
