Post Body

Ok,I know this is a noob question. i get a little confused on keys that people are playing in. So would the key be the first chord played, so that denotes the key thats being played in . I heard a trick as well 2 frets over and 2 frets down is also the same note as the one being played. What I'm confused about is say for example the key of D. Where can i go if im soloing or playing chords. Can i play any note that would compliment D? And is there anything i can practice to get better at this? I generally just go by what sounds good to my ear. Please shed some light on this for me.
