More consistent dice rolls?

I know this is probably a moot point, however I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get more consistent dice roles? For example how do people go from just playing the game for fun to a pro level? It must involve being able to consistently get decent dice rolls. so, how does one go about this in the first place? Just for reference. I am currently using a dice cup when I roll my dice.
