Pick up an old save or new game?

So I started the game maybe a year ago, played about 8-10 hours and had just beat the cleric beset. Family, work, life etc. got in the way and only now wanted to pick up again, but for a casual player who is at best mediocre at this… do I try and pick up from the save or start again and build up my understanding again?
