Interesting to see an updated end of life / firmware support update appear since the recent push to move further into Amazon's domain.
This page appears to have been made live on 18th October 2021:
Summary:
Blink Outdoor Camera - support expected until 2025
Blink Indoor Camera - support expected until 2025
Blink Doorbell - support expected until 2025
Blink Mini - support expected until 2025
Sync Module v2 - support expected until 2025
XT2 - support expected until 2024
Sync Modules v0 & v1 - support expected until 2024
XT - support & compatibility no longer guaranteed - End of Life 1st November 2021
v1 Indoor Camera - support & compatibility no longer guaranteed - End of Life 1st November 2021
This means, Amazon are putting a roughly 4 year life on brand new devices, significantly affecting the decision making process given the (now) high cost per year subscriptions new adopters will be facing.
It also tells us this - the cameras with the inclusive cloud storage (mainly XT's, with XT2's also) are potentially looking at obsolescence (if they are blocked from connecting to the cloud) in just over 25 months time, with the XTs (the bulk of the early adopters) at risk now.
Obviously we have no insight into business decisions at Amazon or Blink, or how aggressive they need to be with users to sustain any chosen business model, and the phrasing "through at least" lets them have a lot of slip in what actually happens.
But it's interesting all the same... and worrying to have the clock ticking for those of us running tens of XTs & XT2s in otherwise good shape.
