I received this question via DM - in order to make the answer public I'm replying here :)
The use of the 'Allow Access to Customer Support' slider has changed over the years. It used to unlock the settings, logs and video container access to support (CS level 1 is based "offshore"), but now it only unlocks the account overview page - it's basically confirming that the account owner consents to CS potentially making changes / investigating.
It did use to make videos available too (as CS would ask use to record test videos) but the link below is new: This will allow us to check logs and settings to assist with troubleshooting. This will not give us access to video or audio." so perhaps this has changed. I've not heard any updates on this.
CS Level 2 and above can override this slider anyway. The logs show this as an override.
So I would not worry. If you already are a target, your videos will be accessible regardless - the slider is just a personnel administrative action.
Does this answer your questions u/DigitalFidgetal?
hello friend,
just reaching out to get some clarification on blink.
context:
questions:
so, i reached out to customer service, and they asked me to give them access to my camera. They said this access will NOT grant them access to audio or video. What do you think? Is this Standard Operating Procedure/SOP?
"please open your Blink app and follow these steps in order to grant Customer Service access to your account: - With your Blink app open to the home page of the app, tap the 'Settings' (cogwheel) icon at the bottom right of the app, and then tap on the ‘Account and Privacy’ section, then enable the option that says "Grant Blink Support Account Access' and let me know when it has been enabled. Detailed instructions and screenshots can be found here. - If this option does not show, please update the Blink app in the App Store or Google Play Store. Please go here for links to the Blink app.
This will allow us to check logs and settings to assist with troubleshooting. This will not give us access to video or audio."
