So I spent hours working on a portrait last night and was feeling really good about it...saved via ctrl-S AND manually saved a back up. everything seemed fine with no errors or anything and now today both files including renaming the blend1 file to blend all open at default cube with NOTHING all my work was gone. This is the second time this has happened to me in the last month. Is there a way to recover the work?? if not is there at least a way I can stop this from ever happening again??

EDIT: I should also say that the files live on an external samsung 2tb ssd and i switch between 2 systems.

System one: Ryzen 5950x, rtx3090, 128gb ram

system 2: i7-11700, rtx 3090, 64gg ram

SOLVED: I figured out that the problem was with the external drive. I went to open som other work related files and nototiced that the changes i made to the file structure and recent versions didnt exist at all anymore. ejected the disc and was prompted to repair the drive when i pluged back in. everythings good now
