How do I make changes on a part of an already made object without disturbing the other parts?

Post Body

Making changes to an already made object is where I'm stuck. I apologize in advance, I'm a beginner learning the ropes.

The metal brace I want to alt extrude is too small because I have to scale the rear end of stock up to fit the image without dragging along the barrel. Where the rear end of the stock and rear end of the barrel meets is where the highlighted brace is.

How do I increase the scale of the rear stock to fit the image without dragging along the barrel?

I plan on alt extruding the metal brace on the resized rear stock side after. I'm hoping there will be no hiccups on the barrel end when I do this.
