It could be that he didn't like Zanka no Tachi at all, and he was just mocking Yamamoto before killing him.
Royd did shed a tear when copying Yhwach. Maybe he didn't use it on utter disgust for what the bankai does - Yhwach has that weird orange blue moral code for his "sons".
