How Wong Kar-wai is destroying Danny Boyle? Look, I’m not going to roll out the “BLOCKBUSTERS SHOULD BE THE MAIN TOPIC OF BLANK CHECK” argument. There’s been enough of that today, including from myself.

But for real, I need to understand how a foreign language director that isn’t Bong Joon-ho is straight up dominating the poll today against a guy who swept the Oscars 12 years ago. I’m sure he has his fans, but there’s no world where he is more popular than Danny Boyle. This isn’t the Gore vs Johnston battle or even Kusama vs Weir. It really doesn’t make sense.

Boyle has soooooo much name recognition, Wong - despite the people pushing him today - really does not.

So can someone, please explain to me how this makes any sense?
