There’s really no good reason why I’ve been thinking about this lately, but The Greatest Showman’s cultural impact is so confusing to me and I’m curious about what thoughts others might have.
It was such a huge hit, was supposedly the comeback of movie musicals, the songs were incredibly popular and they even got a whole pop star cover album. But besides maybe the one This is Me song it just hasn’t seemed to have any lasting impact in the last few years— I never hear it referenced, even the people I knew who loved it when it came out don’t seem to revisit it still, I’ve never heard the usual plans for sequels or broadway adaptations you would expect from such a huge money maker. Does it seem to have disappeared or am I just out of touch?
Edit: based on feedback I have learned that The Greatest Showman very much exists and in fact is thriving in the world, while I apparently live under a rock. A disappointing thing to discover about myself but I am glad to have answers, thank you all for your feedback 🥲
