Tong issues?

Hey y’all, I’m new here and today was the first time I tried to forge something, I noticed I have a very hard time holding onto the material with my tongs, I have a very firm grip but it still seems to slip out. They are a very cheap pair from Amazon. My question is, am I just not holding on tight enough or are the tongs just junk? Thank you for your time much appreciated!
