Triple spike challenge.

I would be interested to see if it's remotely possible to forge a knife (Parang prefered) only using railroad spikes for you anvil, stock, and hammer.

The head of a railroad spike does not offer a remotely good surface for an anvil,, you might even be better served using a wood stump itself, but the idea is to drive the spike into a set of of wood and use that as your striking surface.

But before that you need to drift a hole and mount your rail spike to a handle to make your hammer. This can be forged with your traditional tools. Shape this in a manner you best see fit as it will be your only hammer moving past this point.

Hammer and anvil complete, time for the final piece, use the third remaining spike to forge your parang or other style blade.

Post below if you're interested in the idea and interested in competing. No prizes awarded, just practicing and showcasing your skills.

And just to recap the three railroad spike challenge.

  • Rail spike hammer forged using your traditional tools. Standard hammer and anvil permitted. Must drift your hole and be mounted on wood handle.

  • Rail spike anvil, spike driven into wood log or stump.

  • Blade length must exceed 6" but total length including handle may not exceed 16", parang prefered bit style of choice permitted.
