TL;DR
- Hike was hard, but not long. Bring plenty of water. I'm 26F 5'6 290lbs and was able to do it just fine.
- This is not a beach dedicated to true nudism, but instead a beach where you are allowed to be nude. I was expecting more AANR style nudism.
- Arguably one of the nicest beaches in San Diego
- Was proposited for sex a total of 5 times and saw multiple sexual acts, but not sure how common this typically is.
- Sunset was incredible. Start hiking back about 7:30 (in July) to get the best view.
There wasn't a ton of information in one place when I was researching what to expect, so here we go. Actual experience may vary.
July 13th I (26F) ventured out to the famed Black's Beach for the first time, and I visited again on the 14th (a Friday). I was in town for business, and figured I'd pay a visit. Both days I arrived around 5 and left around 8. While this was my first nude beach experience, I am no stranger to nudism and have a nude resort that I visit often. Let's talk about the hike. It took about 10 minutes to go down, for reference I am 5'6 and 290lbs. You descend about 400 feet within .5 miles, so it can be a little rough on the knees. A good mix of large steps and just downhill dirt/sand. While the hike back up SUCKS, I would argue that the hike down is harder on the body. The hike up took me about 20 minutes with plenty of breaks. I saw many people going up/down in sandals, but I would not recommend it.
Once you're down at the beach, hang left to continue to the nude area. There was a fair mix of nude/topless/clothed people, of all different ages. I did notice that there were quite a bit of younger people (20s-30s) than a normal nudist scene. The volleyball courts seemed to be a popular area, but for the most part people were scattered up and down the shoreline in their own areas. I did see a few families with children as well. Thursday I walked about 1/2 way down the shore, and Friday I walked the entire length. As I was walking the shoreline on Thursday, a man approached me, making small talk. He said he saw someone on the north end letting guys pleasure themselves overtop of her, and asked if I would be interested. He persisted a bit, but I eventually ditched him. I had 2 more similar encounters, and one guy jumped out of his chair about 50 feet away to come talk to me as I was walking the shoreline. I left shortly after, very unimpressed by the beach.
I had a much better experience on Friday, as I knew what to expect. I figured that I owed it a redemption shot. Friday I decided that I would walk up to the North end, or what is considered the gay area. The walk from the volleyball nets to the north end was about 20 minutes. On my way there, I did see a girl giving head very close to the shoreline, as well as gay sex, and a guy jacking off. They weren't really bothering anyone, and I just plugged along. The north end is DEFINITELY the gay end, especially with that weekend being San Diego pride. I enjoyed the north end a lot more, as no one was there to bother me.
I will say, the first day I went I was disappointed, as I was fully expecting a beach dedicated to proper nudism. I soon came to the realization that Blacks is just a beach where you're allowed to be nude. Being upset that someone at a public beach that allows nudism is doing something inappropriate is like throwing a party at a public park and being upset that there are teenages are on the swings. Once I learned to accept the beach for what it was, I was able to truly enjoy it.
Outside of my predisposed expectations, it really is a beautiful beach and a wonderful place to practice nudism, get a bit of sun, and enjoy the ocean in your birthday suit.
