tl;dr: Has anyone found the ideal keybinding for the specialist weapons and abilities?
I've been playing since the day this came out, so I'm no newcomer to it. Since the beginning, I've used the defaults, but with grenades and melee bound to the respective thumb buttons on my mouse. Lately I've been playing around trying to find the ideal keybindings, and the one I keep coming back to having trouble working out where to put is the specialist weapon/ability.
About half of them are fine when they're on Q, but there are some (heatwave, in particular, but true for ripper, and probably psychosis, glitch, kinetic armor, and maybe active camo and gravity spikes) where it's not ideal. For example, with heatwave, if I'm turning a left corner, I will have my finger on D, and if I need to heatwave, I can jump out of the way, still holding D and aiming at him, heatwave him, and kill him. But if I'm turning a right corner, my finger is on A. If I need to heatwave someone, my finger comes off A to hit Q, and my movement gets messed up. Often this results in me ending up right in front of his weapon. So, I've tried to find a good key for it, and played with so many combinations. I even got an orbweaver to see if I can make use of the extra thumb buttons. I've put jump and slide on the directional pad, and honestly---although I'm still acclimating to it---I feel really nimble having my thumb control both jumping and sliding. The switch under the directional pad seemed like the ideal choice for the specialist weapon, but I'm often hitting it by accident while I'm jumping around, and it's so easy to do that I don't think I can train myself not to. Then there's the one above, but it's just doesn't feel quite quick enough to get to. At the moment, I have it set to the key that's where capslock is on a normal keyboard. It leaves my WASD fingers free, and I use toggle sprint, so my pinky is usually free. It still doesn't quite feel as quick as I'd like.
I'm considering swapping sprint and specialist, so sprint is on caps-lock, and specialist is on shift. The leftmost column on this keypad is a little lower than the other columns, so the caps-lock key is almost where shift would be on a normal keyboard, so it's fairly comfortable.
There's also mouse buttons, but a lot of them will mess with my combat too, and some are already taken. I don't use lethals much, so I could set it to the heel-of-the-thumb button, which I currently have for lethals.
Just curious if anyone's found the 'perfect' keybinding for it.
