Let me begin by saying that not only is this a message to the community, but also a message to Activision. This rant is the final feeling I get not only from the state of the game, but the future of Call of Duty for the PC. Also this is not a thread to disown or bash the consoles, this is simply a discussion about the state of the game on PC. Call of Duty is very popular for a game as a whole, we all know this; but when it comes down to the PC edition of the game it really lacks behind, not only in the amount of player but also in the quality of the game play and investment in the game.
The PC edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is dead. The amount of people playing the game on a daily basis ranges from around 10K on a great day to 3-4K on an average day. Not only that but the game is based off of the region you're in, making it harder to get into lobbies with other people. That being said, the universal solution to this had been to simply capitulate to the fact that you will never be able to play game modes you wanted to; such as: Seach and Destroy, Capture the Flag or even my personal favorite Ground War. With the game showing 0% - 1% of people playing these game modes and many more. (That being said, 1% is usually 1-2 people sitting in a lobby hoping someone else will play with them)
Moving on the biggest complaint, and probably one that everyone agrees with and has been addressed way to much here: Crypto Keys. For me there has been no point. It's simply Activision's way of wanting to nickle and dime us as much as they can. I have never bought Crypto Keys and never will as I have already paid $100 (~ €90 ) for a game and the DLC that has very little community if any, so why should I spend any more money on the game if within the upcoming months the game will most likely be a graveyard.
Zombies, a lot of you looking at this subreddit probably do not care too much for zombies, but I'll put it into perspective for you. The Zombies game mode is even more barren than the Multiplayer game mode. With lobbies being impossible to find and the playability being somewhat sub-par (I'll touch more on playability in a later paragraph). That being said, I once again have no use for buying Liquid Diviniums because one will never be able to join a lobby with randoms to attempt an easteregg or play in general (and yes, I understand that you can do some of the EEs solo but that being said this is about the state of the game and not about trying a solo EE).
Separate but equal, and no I am not talking about the United States Govenment, I'm talking about the difference between the controller and mouse & keyboard. Although the community generally accepts that mouse & keyboard are far superior than that of a controller, that is NOT the case when it comes down to Call of Duty. The game is very well balance on both sides when it comes down to it. Players using the mouse & keyboard do have higher accuracy and more control over the weapon's recoil, but a player who has developed even a moderate skill for using a controller still has better movement and can fully utilize the game's aim assist mechanic (something the mouse & keyboard does not use). In fact, the PC mouse & keyboard players despise the use of controllers for this very reason. Personally I am a controller player, but whether I am using a mouse & keyboard or a controller I personally do just as well with both, maybe even better with a controller.
There are almost no pluses to buying the DLCs. I do not know about the consoles, but PC has no DLC integration. Meaning that each DLC continues to be in it's own category in the game mode selection screen and continues to have 0%-1% of active players in their playlists. Although I was able to play DLC 1 maps, I have not been able to play DLC 2 because there are not enough people playing the game to warrant playing the DLC maps. The only plus is access to the Zombie maps which once again... don't have anyone playing within the multiplayer game mode.
Finally, I come to playability of the PC version. It is deplorable, although better than what it used to be. Originally when the game first came out there was a massive memory leak that caused the game to slow down over time until an eventual crash. However that seems to have been fixed, but there are even larger issues than this.
- Game size: Call of duty with the current two DLCs installed takes up a whopping 79.5GB worth of storage space. Making load times slow for people who have it installed on a Hard Drive. (Luckily I have an SSD so I don't have to worry too much about this.)
- Memory Bandwidth: With all the setting turned to low, the game takes up approximately 5-7GB of RAM depending on the game mode and map. Turning up the settings to max dumps a massive 12-15GB worth of textures, lighting effects, meshes, ect right into your RAM.
- Reliability: None. The game for PC is not in the slightest "smooth". Although playable and claiming to be running at 60FPS, it is jerky, and clearly drops frames (anywhere from 5-15 per second as a general guess). Compared to it's console counterparts which run smoother than butter in an ice rink, it is not quite the same story for the PC version.
With this I come to my final conclusion for the state of the PC edition... Disgraceful. The PC community (or at least what is left of it) has been slowly shoved along to the abysmal state it is in now. There is no point in continuing to invest money into the game if I have already invested $100 into the Vanilla game and DLCs only to have myself disappointed by the quality and support Activision has given to the PC community.
Thanks to anyone who has read this far into my rant.
TL;DR PC version bad. Sad to see PC version as it is now. Bad PC version. Make /u/KidintheCloset cry.
