Misogyny, the discrimination or prejudice against women, is a pervasive issue that affects society as a whole, transcending racial boundaries. It is crucial for everyone, including black men, to combat misogyny on platforms like Reddit actively. Here are some key reasons why engaging in misogyny harms everyone:
- Perpetuating Harmful Stereotypes: Misogynistic comments reinforce negative stereotypes about women. When black men engage in such behavior, it contributes to the stereotype that they are more prone to sexism, which is unfair and detrimental to the entire community.
- Undermining Gender Equality: Gender equality is fundamental to a just and equitable society. Misogyny, regardless of who perpetuates it, obstructs progress towards this goal. By participating in misogynistic behavior, black men inadvertently contribute to the continuation of gender inequality, which harms everyone, including themselves.
- Stifling Constructive Dialogue: Reddit is a platform that thrives on open discussions and diverse perspectives. Misogyny can stifle these discussions by creating a hostile atmosphere discouraging women from participating. When women feel unwelcome or threatened, the entire community loses out on their valuable insights and experiences.
- Harming Mental Health: Misogynistic comments can profoundly affect the mental health and self-esteem of women who encounter them. This harm extends beyond the immediate victims to the broader community. When we contribute to an environment where such behavior is tolerated, we indirectly contribute to the mental distress experienced by others.
- Promoting Toxic Masculinity: Toxic masculinity, often intertwined with misogyny, is also harmful to men. By promoting a culture where men are expected to conform to rigid and harmful stereotypes, black men inadvertently harm themselves and their peers.
- In addition, the space that is built here is meant to be supportive and always accessible. Engaging in rampant behavior here has led to other black male-dominated spaces being closed on Reddit for clear policy violations and site-wide rules.
- In the future, we will be more strict on these rules to comply with Reddit rules and to make it so this community can last for the foreseeable future.
So in summary: the rampant Misogyny and toxic behavior that has permenated through this space is not accepable not only in reddit but in life as well. To help combat this we are going to follow the rules of not only the sub but reddit as whole more strictly. I hope to connect with you all in the future and make this a space where everyone feels supported in healthy and productive ways.
I do not understand this statement. Explain please?

Misogyny is not acceptable on this platform, period. We have had the admins removing comments and users from this sub and it has to stop.
Like you said, anyone can be misogynistic. We don't care if you're cis, trans, heterosexual, homosexual, etc - you can't be a misogynist here.
Saying black heterosexual men are inherently misogynistic is not only wrong, it's incredibly damaging to black people as a whole. We need to do better and be better.
