Can yā€™all help me make sense of a situation I keep finding myself in?

Thereā€™s a white guy at my job. About 3 in shorter than me and 4 years younger. After attending one work happy hour together, I think he likes me.

He kept hovering around me and talking ideas at me. He kept saying that he loves socializing at work and - at one point - complained that our other coworkers donā€™t drink and hang as much as heā€™d like us all to. He ā€œdoesnā€™t believeā€ in working from home. He celebrates the shitty corrupt local politicians in my city, saying that they are ā€œtrying their bestā€. He tries to play Devilā€™s advocate.

I am the complete opposite, and itā€™s obvious in my presentation: I am more masculine in appearance, unambiguously Black, shaved head, socialist/communist, feminist, blah blah blah.

Toward the end of the night, he asked for my number, saying we should ā€œhang out outside of work.ā€ I gave it to him, idk why. 30 minutes later, he tells me heā€™s in love with his girlfriend. Then he offers to walk me halfway home (I decline).

I plan to avoid him, so Iā€™m not asking for advice on what to do. I guess Iā€™m just asking like why do WM do this? I tend to have these types of interactions with WM: we are politically and socially opposite, they donā€™t seem to date or be interested in BW, but something about me excites them and they want to get close to me. They donā€™t want the night to end. They want to keep talking. What do yall make of this? Does this happen to yall?
