So I'm about to be 33(October) and I have no kids. I invest in stocks and have made some good returns, but I'm hoping on a even bigger return; hopefully in the next coming months. I plan on buying land and homesteading, but have thought about maybe doing a commune thing but for black childless women? Only childless, due to I can't afford to put myself and other people at risk; nothing against women with children. So, my thought is I would purchase the land and I could have women who want to also live on the land in their own tiny homes or what not? We would grow our own food, raise chickens and goats, and just do whatever. I would want it to be more of like we all came together for this one single goal of helping one another, but we all still lived our own separate lives too.
I see white people do this ALLLL the time, but don't really see to many black people doing something like this? Yes, more black people are buying land and there was even those group of people who bought like 100 acres together a few years back; yet other than them I'm aware of other black people going this route. I talked it over with my friend who I consider like a sister, yet she wasn't really fond of the idea. She's proud of me wanting to help and wanting to like start a business if it came to fruition, but see's more risks than rewards? So, I just wanted some of your honest opinion about my idea? I didn't want to make this post super duper long, but I have given a lot more thought than just the little bit I shared; yet I want you guys to tell me what you think about the overall idea. I plan on buying land regardless, but also think it's a good opportunity to form my own "sisterhood" in away.
I'm not really religious, not political, and I'm more so want to buy land because I really want to build and make my own space for myself and I'm sure there are other ladies who feel the same way. I wanna grow my own food, make soap and clothes, and eventually be able to position myself where I don't need to work a 9-5. All these things I can do on my own, but I'll be a little honest; kind of scared too and I think more help could get me a more further. Me and whoever could sell our goods and any money made; would just go back into the land and the things we need. I also thought about starting a youtube channel to showcase our progress that we made and how it all started? I don't know....I think it's a good idea and could work; with like minded indiviuals. I know there would be problems here and there, but don't think it would be THAT bad the way my sister was making it seem?
So please provide input about my crazy idea....Thanks!
I currently live in TX and have started looking at land in Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia. These places seem to have awesome scenery but also getting more like 10 acres isn't that expensive!
/u/KieraH_Naturally I would be happy to give you a channel in the blackladies discord if you do not want to run your own, just let me know
