Had my first experience playing blackjack in person in a casino yesterday, all been online prior. Not an AP, just passing for fun (happened to come out ahead though, which is nice). A few things surprised me:
Gamblers spending more effort working out what "would have happened" than it would take to actually count.
People playing side bets on others' hands, up to three different people playing my side bets at once. How do they even keep track of that?
Others betting more behind me than I was playing, plus as much again in side bets.
So slow! Took so long to get to me on third base I had to think twice.
SO MANY bad decisions. I made one basic strategy error I'm aware of, but most others had no idea when to double or split, or even hit/stand holding 12-16.
Very weird experience, but happy I gave it a go.
