scared to go to HBCU
Post Body

hi yall, i am applying to college soon and want to go to University of Houston or Texas but my boyfriend really wants me to go to an HBCU locally instead, because it’s cheaper and their nursing programs are better.

i am NOT trying to generalize here, im sure many predominantly black schools are amazing, but i grew up in foster care so i’ve been to several different schools in many different areas growing up. whenever i was at a predominantly black school, i was always bullied, especially by black men. all the way up to high school. it wasn’t even lighthearted roasting or me being sensitive or anything, i was called a monkey, a pig, faced sexual harassment, etc, so much that i had to leave school.

i think a lot of this is because i’m just kind of awkward and a lot of people think that it’s me being standoffish. i never defend myself or anything so i guess it makes people want to target me since i deviate so much.

i know this will probably sound ridiculous, but im afraid to go to an hbcu for the same reason. i know people say that people in hbcu’s are way kinder, but the people i went to school with couldn’t have changed that much within a year of graduating. i don’t want to have to face the same harassment all over again, or be left out, or picked on, or disliked for no reason.

again, i am not trying to be rude or put our race down or anything! 😭 i just dont know if this pattern will continue.
