My gym divides its classes into beginner, intermediate (3 stripe white belts and up), and advanced (1 stripe blue belts and up). Open mats are also open only to intermediate members and above. I suspect this is to make sure that everyone who is at open mat knows how to roll safely, and can at least provide a little bit of a challenge to the higher belts.
I recently received my third stripe, and was surprise when I was told that I would be paying an extra $20 a month on top of the $130 I already pay for my promotion, their reasoning being that more classes are open to me and so therefore my gym fees should also increase. While this makes a little sense, I'm not too familiar with how other gyms in the business operate to know if this is unusual/shady or not. I've had nothing but great and positive experiences at this gym, so I'd really like to believe that this is a reasonable business practice, but I'd like to hear all of your thoughts on the matter as well. Is this sort of practice common? Do you think you would stay or start looking for another gym?
I think that's my main beef with the price increase. I really do wish they were more transparent.
We do participate in tournaments pretty regularly. Our kids and teens tend to clean house and sweep up a bunch of gold medals. The competition I went to not long ago saw most adults from our gym place in their divisions, with some taking gold.
Nope, belt and stripe promotions aren't paid for at least

I wonder if that has something to do with it because I'm at a Renzo affiliate
