Going back to an old gym?

Hey guys I was wondering if it would be weird to back to an open mat or to train at a school I used to train. One of the guys who trains there I’ve know for 12 years so it’s like going back to spar with a friend nothing else. Or would it be weird since I’m now a Checkmat fighter and will more than likely compete against them in a tournament.
