Coming back from my first significant injury some advice as to how to avoid the mat bully.
Post Body

So basically last year at the age of 41 I started Jiu Jitsu. We normally did an hour of instruction then 5, 5 min rounds rotating partners. There was one blue belt in particular who goes ape shit on white belts. He ended up messing my shoulder up pretty badly after not stopping when I was tapping, I literally had to scream tap at the top of my lungs after tapping the hell out of him to get him to let up. The academy is close knit and of course he’s part of that inner clique so I just didn’t say anything. I’m finally on the mend after months of PT, injections and rehab. I enjoy the people there for the most part but really wanna stay away from rolling with this guy, the problem is you can’t pick your partners they work this place like drill instructors telling you where to go who to roll with. How should I go about telling them I don’t want to roll with this guy without looking like a coward? I just want to learn and have fun and not go through what I’ve been through this past year.
