Poppy pods to codeine

In theory I understand this will work I understand simple distillation, but don't know how one would determine purity of end product plus conversion of morphine to codeine.
Attemtping to make T3 syrup due to not wanting to bother with cold water extraction for promethazine.
(On my question about determining purity, a set range would be fine, I know sending samples to labs to test is a option but preferably something I'd like to avoid)
