Tired of running 20-30 gram reductions in my 2 liter RBF. I run the Al/hg with nitromethane reductive amination, I know some people have used hdpe buckets to run bigger reactions so Here’s an idea I wanted to get input on:
I have a big 5 liter beaker. If I were to make a tightly fitted lid out of a few layers of HDPE, with a few holes drilled out to fit the condenser and addition funnel do I run any risk of—catastrophe?
I know some people write about having done 50 gram reductions in a 2 liter vessel but I just don’t trust it. The reaction produces so so so much heat I don’t wanna risk it…
I figure if people run this reaction in actual buckets that I could run it just fine but wanted to check with some people here who may have some experience or perspective on this…
If I use thick hdpe for the lid and make sure it fits tight there’s not a huge risk of it melting right?
Thanks to all of you kind meth cooks in advanced :)

Please do. People love showing off their writeups and end results but the construction of processes is way underrated.
