Hiya. 18m autistic gay/ace guy here.
Over the last year I’ve started noticing a lot of infighting in the community and it’s been so upsetting to witness.
Seeing gay spaces adopt such biphobic behaviour has been heartbreaking. Over the year I’ve seen more posts about people here not wanting to date homosexuals for this reason.
I originally joined this sub to gain insight and empathy towards bisexual folk and problems faced by people who are different than me, as I did for the lesbian and trans subs. But I ended up staying here because it’s the nicest community I’ve joined- even though I’m not bi. The love and support and understanding has been unlike anything I’ve seen on this app. I worry that I’m gonna lose that though, because I’m gay.
Am I still allowed here? I understand if I’m seen as a threat or if bi folk don’t want me to be around. It hurts but I’ll respect that and leave.
I’m pretty good at communicating through text, but in person I’m what you’d call ‘obviously’ autistic (which I find reductive, but understand people make judgements fast), so social interaction feels impossible to me, especially the complex relationships online.
I’m just so, so worried that the relationship between the sexualities online is getting worse. I don’t want people to be threatened by me. I understand why though, because the biphobia I’ve witnessed has been heartbreaking.
