So, I’ve recently reconnected with a friend I used to game with about four years ago. We hadn’t spoken since, but I still had him on Snapchat. Out of the blue, I decided to send him a random snap of my face. His reply was, “Oh, you probably had quite some girlfriends,” which led to a conversation where I came out as gay. He was totally chill about it.

A few days later, he randomly sent me a picture of his six-pack, which caught me off guard since it seemed out of nowhere. After that, we started talking more, and eventually, we met up in real life with another friend of mine (a girl). During the meetup, there was a lot of intense eye contact, and he was unusually touchy, which confused me because he’s explicitly said he’s straight. That night, after some drinking, the three of us shared a bed, and he made sure he was sleeping next to me.

Since then, he’s been calling me daily, and we’re each other’s #1 on Snapchat. We’ve hung out a few more times, and one time, he even randomly took me to meet his grandparents – which felt like a big step for someone I’ve only reconnected with a month ago.

Here’s where it gets more confusing: He’s currently dating a girl, but he’s super inconsistent about his feelings toward her. Sometimes, he’s all about her, and other times, he seems indifferent. He’s talked about her so much that I eventually told him I needed to take a step back to give him space to focus on his relationship. His response? “I’d prefer to be friends with you rather than date her.”

I don’t know what to think about this. On one hand, he’s said he’s straight, but his actions and the vibe I’m getting seem to suggest there’s something more going on. Am I overthinking this, or is there something deeper here?
