It is insanely hurtful as a bi woman married to a bi woman who lives in a conservative part of the US to see comments here daily about how bi women and lesbian women are so accepted, especially when the bi women are dating women. I think there’s a population of this sub who would think I have it the ‘easiest’ of any bi demographic being a woman with a woman because apparently there are no drawbacks that come there??
And I’m NOT saying I have it harder. All of us have struggles. Bi women dating men have their own struggles. Bi men of all types have struggles.
I just absolutely am negatively impacted by homophobia. I do deal with the fear of ‘coming out’ in my community despite having no choice but to be out because of my marital status. I see folks all the time on here insisting people like me are accepted and meanwhile I’m anxious about holding my wife’s hand in public. I saw a comment today saying bi women and lesbian women don’t face physical assault apparently though, so I guess I’ve got no reason to be afraid of physical violence as a GAY WOMAN.
Having invalidation come from within this community hurts a lot. And it should go without saying, but fetishization is not acceptance. Regardless, we do still deal with homophobia outside of fetishization as well.
