before i came out of the closet, my parents were very vocal about how they supported gay people. they figured if it didn't affect them, people should just be allowed to live their lives how they want.
then when i was a teenager i came out as bi, and suddenly it did affect them. they completely flipped and all of a sudden it was immoral and unnatural and not something they supported at all, because it became too close to them.
then as an adult i started meeting other people and going on dates with men and women. ive met quite a few women who support the community, who are genuinely very accepting of other perspectives...right up until I come out to them. it shouldn't change anything about me, but generally they react with disgust. and when they react with disgust, it takes me right back to how i felt with my family.
they are supportive of LGBT people, up until it starts to affect their life, and then that support gives way to complete disgust. once it gets too close to them, they reject it.
