How discreet is Grindr?

I've been struggling with this for a while now. I've talked with my wife about exploring my sexuality with another man and she's 100% on board as long as we communicate. My biggest concern is that I'm not out with anyone but her. We talked about dating apps but I'm really nervous about putting myself out there. I live in a pretty progressive town, but it hasn't always been. I want to explore, but I'm terrified of the fallout. Is Grindr discreet or are there better apps out there?
