Hi all! So i (24F) have been on Lutera, birth control pills for about five years! Besides my boobs growing and a bit of weight gain over the years, no serious side effects. I loved it! But recently I've wanted something less high maintenance and I've come to a conclusion that i would like an iud.

So, yesturday i got it out in. Here is my story:

My appointment was at 8:30am, so i drank a bit of a protein shake, took two Advils, a cbd gummy for my nerves, and drank water. Now, as I'm in the table, my doctor takes me through the steps. First he measures me. Simple. Then he opens me and sterilizes me. Then a small pinch (didn't feel it at all tbh) of local anastetic. i was on my second day of my period so apparently that was supposed to help the insertion he easier. After the anastetic, came the uncomfortable part. He checks how I'm dialated... Which feels like s very deep pap smear, at least for me. It was uncomfortable but nothing painful. And then came the main event.... Putting the iud in. Now. When he put it in.... My body reacted by tensing up and moving away. This was simple because for me it was a surprise 10/10 pain for literally like less than 5 seconds! I did not expect it at all! I underestimated the pain i think since I was so calm, but.... Then it was over !!!

The 5 seconds felt like a pap smear that went way too far in and punctured something. Then there was a smaller, same pain level movement which I'm guessing was the doctor placing it. And then he just paused, stopped and told me okay, the worst is over. Your good. Now try to relax. And even though there was an ache in that area, no more pain! Definitely felt pressure/cramping.

He simple then removed everything slowly and checked my positioning, and we were all good! But how... Here comes the not so fun part after. I felt nauseous after getting it in. I just thought I was hungry .. apparently I was going to faint. Lol. But i felt good in the beginning besides being nauseous, and dressed back up after 5 mins of relaxing and walked into the lobby. Right as I was about to sign paperwork i felt and overwhelming feeling of being not fully there. Reality was kind of hazy. I automatically sat down in a chair, told the receptionist i was gonna faint, and fainting right there in the chair!!! Just a couple moments later the doctor and nurse helped me lay down and positioned me so that my head was lower then my body. It was a crazy ride let me tell you. But after 10 mins of laying like that i felt perfect!!

I took one more advil throughout the day, used a small best pack for a bit (or in my case just laying a hot tea mug on my pelvis) and i actually walked a lot. It seemed to help so much! After 30 mins after the insertion I felt perfect!

Today is day two and i just woke up and i feel perfectly fine. My period even lightened up a lot and it seems like it's ending sooner then normal. Have my check in in two months! If you guys have any advice on sexual intimacy after getting an iud, i would appreciate it!
