I've had my Mirena for the past 5 months (since February) and overall have been very happy with it. I had leg and uterine cramps for 2 weeks after insertion (the leg cramps were actually much worse), but things have settled down since then. I still get fairly regular periods which I track with the Clue app, and mild cramping usually 1-2 days before I start bleeding.
But this month I've had on and off cramps much worse than I've had before. For the past 2-3 days I've had cramping almost every night, and in my uterus (rather than the back cramps I usually get) and sometimes it feels like the pain is in my vagina. Today I was actually doubled over in pain and had to go home early.
According to Clue I'm due to start my period on Monday, which would mean that I've been cramping for almost a week before my period, which is unusual for me. I'm a bit worried that the IUD might be expelling or perforating. I've never really been able to feel my strings (small hands and I think they were trimmed well and curled under my cervix pretty early) and my NP told me not to worry about it, and to take pregnancy tests and/or come in for string checks in the office if I felt the need.
It's been 5 months, so I was kind of hoping that the "adjustment" period for my body was pretty much over. I'm worried that the much more painful cramps are a symptom of it expelling or perforating somewhere it shouldn't be.
Is it possible my body is still adjusting and these cramps are normal? Did anyone else have symptom changes this long after insertion? Should I just bite the bullet and go and get checked?
