So itās safe to assume that Bird as we knew it is done. And you could even argue that Bird as a company is a pretty much done too, at the very least a sinking ship.
Looking back at the years I was a charger, roaming the street at all hours of the night (and sometimes day), I canāt deny that it was a blast. An excuse to roam alleyways and random neighborhoods in the search of scooters.
I also think of the weirdos I encountered. The hoarders. The cheaters. Here we were, taking the moral high ground...for what?
Those of us who played by the rules ultimately got hosed. We played by the rules and what did we get in return?
Right is right and wrong is wrong, I get that. But looking back, I busted my ass for this company only to be written off completely, then approached out of nowhere to be a āfleet managerā. Really??
Hindsight is 20/20. Iām not saying Iād hoard and scam and cheat the system. But I would definitely be more understanding and less judgmental of those who did.
At one point, there were brand new Mi M365 scooters as far as the eye could see. Each could fetch an easy $300 each. And we gathered, charged, got 3 hours of sleep, and nested them. For $2.00 a pop.
Maybe the hoarders were right after all. Just saying.
