The last few days have helped me realise the importance of adequate sleep. I’ve always been a terrible sleeper. But when I’m burning the candles at both ends, it’s hard to get enough of it. 4-6 hours most nights.
I forced myself to bed earlier the last 2 nights (both 8-9 hours). And even in that short time, I felt better able to cope with sources of stress. The other realisation is it’s not just about the length or quality of sleep - it’s when I sleep. There is no substitute to getting to sleep at the right time (i.e. in sync with circadian rhythm).
I think I am starting to better understand the role that sleep has on my ability quite simply to process the world around me and its many challenges.
Perhaps this is all basic stuff to the pros at managing bilolar but interested to know what others here think.
