Questioning our lab protocol in turbidimetry: Shouldn't sterile broth be the more appropriate blank?

Part of our protocol is having the original bacterial suspension diluted into suspension:diluent solutions, namely 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5. The diluent is sterile 0.85% saline solution. When it's time to use the spectrophotometer, the suggested blank is sterile 0.85% saline solution. Isn't the sterile broth a more appropriate blank? Maybe add saline to it to 0.85%?
