Post Body

Hi

What determines whether an autoantibody will activate or destroy a receptor? As in the case of Graves Disease where there's an increase in TSH receptor autoantibodies, causing overstimulation of the thyroid

Just having a difficult time getting to grips with how an antibody can activate receptors as opposed to its usual role of dealing with pathogens

Thanks
