What is a thought in it's most basic, biological form?

What really happens in the brain when we form a thought neurologically? Like what's going on with the neurons when we think of the image of a car or say something in our heads like "I am ugly" or "I like potatoes"? What is the physical, biological manifestation of that in real life?
