Glad to hear Pearl Jam back on the pod. Continued condolences to the people of Southern California.
Given Pearl Jam, however, it reminded me of this Reddit post 1 year ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/pearljam/comments/1azjv9k/pearl_jam_fans_blast_tickets_farce_of_new_tour/
Feel free to read fans' perspective on if Pearl Jam, just a band out of Seattle, Washington, and quite possibly *the* embodiment of Gen X, has now sold out. Fans think they have.
And for those not aware- when a band "sells out," it means they have significantly compromised their artistic integrity or core values by making changes to their music or image, often in pursuit of greater commercial success, usually by appealing to a wider audience, potentially by signing with a major label or licensing their music for advertising that contradicts their previous image, often seen as a negative term within the music community.
Aka, the money got to them.
So based on this body of evidence, and because of the continued sponsorship of FanDuel on The Ringer Podcast Network, which arguably has taken the Bill Simmons Podcast away from what originally made it great (back to its B.S. Report days), is it safe to say that Bill Simmons, the OG Boston Sports Guy, has now sold out?
The goal is always to make money. The phrase âsell outâ is so stupid. If he didnât have sponsors and try to make the most money he prob wouldnât have a show or anywhere to write a column. Next time your boss offers you a raise be sure to tell them youâre doing it for the art and decline the money.
