What I mean by that is isn't risky production-wise. It sounds like I've heard it before in the 80's, in the 90's or even in the early 00's. The whole vibe of it sounds so safe. There wasn't any element of risk or surprise. It's a very simple pop song.
It's a very commercial song. It's a single material, definitely radio-friendly with high replay value, but I feel like it doesn't belong to the album, or any other albums of Billie. It should just be a standalone single, or perhaps an OST for a movie ala WWIMF, or perhaps to given to other artists.
Her vocals delivers as usual. Nothing wrong about it. It's just the production for me.
I donβt know what it is, but listen. I have perfect pitch and the first time I listened to Birds of a Feather it sounded pitchy in some of the background vocals to me! This is super strange to me because Billie is generally very particular about her intonation and pitch. She is my all-time favourite artist for this reason (and many others), so I am unable to connect very well to this song. π’
