Problem with straight pool break
Post Body

My opponent broke the rack using the object ball instead of the cue ball. He banked the object ball off the bottom short rail and it smashed into the bottom of the rack before the cue ball could hit it.

Is this a foul?

The cue ball didn't scratch, but he didn't break the rack with the cue ball. So is he deducted one point? Also, do I get ball in hand behind the head string?

Straight pool is kind of confusing when you're first learning how to play, so I appreciate any feedback.
